London, England (Sports Network) - American Allison Schmitt won the women's 200-meter freestyle Tuesday night with an Olympic-record time for her first gold medal.
Schmitt easily beat Camille Muffat of France, touching in 1 minute, 53.61 seconds to shave more than a second off Federica Pellegrini's Olympic record from 2008.
Australia's Bronte Barratt was third and American Missy Franklin finished just .01 seconds out of a bronze after getting her first gold Monday night.
