Coming up this weekend:
August 30 & 31

In honor of the long
Labor Day weekend, Lorianne & Charlie will spend some time with some of the hardest-working acts in Country Music!

As always, Crook & Chase have a strong connection to the stars, and will slow some of them down just long enough to give some a few sage words:

TAYLOR SWIFT sits down to talk about some career goals that she’s already achieved and why it’s so important for her to succeed in the music business both for herself and all the hard-working folks at her record label. Country’s teen sensation has become an “overnight” success this past year and describes reaching all these milestones as something that has really “blown her away.” Descriptive words unique to a super-star 18 year old, don’t you think?

Movie Star… Country Star… Restaurant Owner… Rancher… TOBY KEITH tells Lorianne and Charlie that it wasn’t always good clean fun at some of his early jobs. One of Toby’s employment opportunities before he found success in the music biz was in OKLAHOMA where he was born and raised working in the oil fields. In fact, Toby wrote a song paying tribute to this dirty work and put it on one of his albums. In this revealing interview, Toby tells Lorianne and Charlie some details on being a PUMP JACK operator.

The members of LITTLE BIG TOWN are no strangers to hard work.  In honor of Labor Day, Charlie asked them to speculate on a career they might be good at if they hadn’t made it as performers… The answers might surprise you!

KENNY CHESNEY is probably THE hardest-working touring artist in country music today. Lorianne and Charlie ask him about one of his memorable former jobs, and Kenny recalls when he was hired to paint fire hydrants all over the city.  Kenny even reveals why fire hydrants are painted different colors. Tune in to learn all the details!

Lorianne's been cookin' for Charlie!

Lorianne stepped away from the microphone and prepared
barbecued shrimp for Charlie to try
on
The Crook & Chase Countdown!

Charlie evidently still can't get used to the idea that Lorianne can actually cook!

But he was surprised to find that he liked it!  Lorianne used her favorite marinade.

Lorianne’s “Roll To Go”

Lay out a piece of your favorite deli meat. Lorianne likes turkey. Spread spicy mustard over the deli slice. Add fresh lettuce or spinach. Then top with thin slices of your favorite vegetables. Lorianne uses bell pepper, tomato, and cucumber, but you can add any ingredients that are your favorites. After all your ingredients are piled on, roll it up like a cigar, keeping all the ingredients from falling out the sides. You can eat it right away, or make several to wrap up and keep in the fridge. Lorianne grabs them for an “on the go” healthy breakfast, eats them for lunch, and keeps them at the office for a quick snack. Even “Junk Food Charlie” loved this weird food combination!

My favorite sandwich when I was a kid was white bread, creamy peanut butter, grape jelly and mayonnaise.  I still like it once in a while.  -- Ardith
My weird food combination is strawberry yogurt and hot chocolate. It tastes like chocolate covered strawberries.  -- Your loyal listener, Rachel

Listener Letters

I was listening to the Countdown this morning and your Future Top Ten pick -- "Good Time" by Alan Jackson is his next number one song.  I have the CD, and enjoy listening to all the songs.  He has a real tear-jerker in "Sissy's Song".  That really hit a nerve with me as I lost both of my parents last July -- my Dad on the 4th, my Mom on the 14th.  Yes, just 10 days apart.  They had a full life together.  April 28th would have been 56 years so you can see why that one hit a real tender spot with me.  But all of his music is very meaningful and true to life.  Thanks for your good show.  -- Theresa
